As former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush announced this week that he is actively exploring a bid for president in 2016, President Obama said one great thing about democracy is that anyone can make a run for the White House — even the son and brother of former presidents.
“The Bush family I love personally — they are good people,” Mr. Obama said in an interview with ABC News.
“Obviously, I have a lot of disagreements with Jeb and his brother on policy, but I think they have every right to do what they think is best and, you know, that’s the great thing about democracy,” Mr. Obama said. “Anybody can run, even the son and brother of former presidents.”
With former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton as the presumptive frontrunner on the Democratic side, Mr. Obama was asked about talk of “Bush-Clinton” redux and former first lady Barbara Bush’s past comments pointing out that there are, in fact, other families in the country.
“You know, we had an Obama interrupt the run they’ve had,” he said. “I know, obviously, my former secretary of state, think so highly of her, and I’ve said before and will continue to say, I think she’d be an excellent president.”
