The Military Religious Freedom Foundation, run by former Air Force official Mikey Weinstein, petitioned the Army to remove a job posting that required applicants to “be of Christian faith” — and the Army apparently listened.
The ad was for an ROTC assistant professorship at an Illinois college, the Army Times reported.
Mr. Weinstein called the “Christian faith” caveat “constitutionally noxious” and “an abhorrent nightmare,” the Army Times reported. His group sent a letter dated Nov. 6 demanding that the branch delete the requirement.
Shortly after, Army Secretary Anthony Stamilio wrote the MRFF and said the branch “removed all university preferences from our assignment postings,” the Army Times reported.
An Army spokesman declined to say whether Mr. Weinstein’s petition had anything to do with the ad amendment.
“The Army is currently reviewing the SROTC assignment policy,” said Lt. Col. Ben Garrett, the Army Times reported. “The Army remains committed to assigning officers to meet the needs of the Army, in accordance with all applicable equal opportunity policies and statutes.”
