Former Massachusetts Gov. and presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Sony Pictures’ response to the threats over its comedy “The Interview” ought to be more in-your-face and defiant: He advised the company to release the film online for free viewing.
“@SonyPictures don’t cave, fight: release @TheInterview free online globally. Ask viewers for voluntary $5 contribution to fight #Ebola,” Mr. Romney said in a tweet, The Hill reported.
Mr. Romney sent out the social media message shortly after the movie studio decided to pull its film out of concerns of attacks at theaters. The film, a comedy, shows the assassination of North Korea’s Kim Jong-un.
Newt Gingrich, meanwhile, said the decision to pull the film from theaters isn’t a good move for America.
“No one should kid themselves,” the former House speaker said in his own tweet, The Hill reported. “With the Sony collapse, America has lost its first cyberwar. This is a very very dangerous precedent.”
