Gas prices are now at a four-year low, reaching a national average of $2.48 per gallon.

The American Automobile Association predicts the lower prices will increase holiday travel by at least 4 percent during the next two weeks.

Nearly 99 million people will travel at least 50 miles during Christmas and the New Year.

Last year at this time, the average was $3.22 per gallon of petrol.

USA Today reported that low prices at the pump mean 9 out of 10 people will travel by car instead of flying.

“At one time it was a decision between flying and driving, but … people are just opting to drive their cars because the gas prices are so low,” AAA’s Garrett Townsend told USA Today.

Mr. Garrett predicted gas prices will decrease more than 10 cents before Christmas Day.
