The American Kennel Club has opened its doors to four new breeds — the Cirneco dell’Etna, the Bergamasco, the Spanish water dog and the Boerboel.

The new breeds — which hail from the fields of farm and fishing, rabbit-hunting, sheep herding and watchdogging — will be allowed entry beginning on Jan. 1, The Associated Press reported.

And that makes them eligible to participate in AKC-sanctioned dog shows all next year. Still, they can’t compete in the Westminster Kennel Club show until 2016, AP said.

The entry of the four new breeds brings the number recognized by the AKC to 184.
