Bart Simpson has hit the college scene — along with sisters Lisa and Maggie, dad Homer and mother Marge.

Colleges across the nation are incorporating the long-running cartoon series into course discussions. Why? To get students to talk about — as Hofstra University on New York’s Long Island puts it — “The D’oh! Of Homer,” The Associated Press reported.

Professor Richard Pioreck said using “The Simpsons” helps engage students taking his Broadway musical class who are familiar with the pop culture series, AP said. His view: If references like “D’oh!” are important enough to make it to “The Simpsons” screen, then they must have hit cultural milestone status, he said, AP reported.

Other colleges, meanwhile, have put “The Simpsons” episode of the “Odyssey,” along with a handful of other notable shows, into the classroom for further student study, AP said.
