The White House wouldn’t say Wednesday whether President Obama will go to Cuba, but former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is on record as hoping to go.

Asked by an interviewer last July if she would consider visiting the island for a “Nixon goes to China” moment, Mrs. Clinton replied, “Someday, I’d like to go to Cuba. I would someday, yes.”

Mrs. Clinton told journalist Jorge Ramos that she thinks the U.S. embargo against Cuba has been a failure.

“I think it has propped up the Castro’s because they can blame everything on the embargo … everything is blamed on the embargo,” she said.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Mr. Obama hasn’t decided whether he’ll go to Cuba.

“It is not unprecedented for us to go places” where the U.S. objects to human rights abuses, Mr. Earnest said.
