Republican Dallas Woodhouse and his Democratic brother Brad Woodhouse, two pundits on separate political poles, were staking out their opposite positions on a recent Washington Journal television broadcast — when their mother dialed in and told them to stop arguing.
The two were actually in the middle of discussing bipartisanship, and host Steve Scully fielded a telephone call from “Joy” from North Carolina. So the two brothers both greeted the caller from their Southern neck of the woods with smiles — until they heard her voice.
“Oh God, it’s Mom,” said Dallas, United Press International reported.
And her response?
“You’re right, I’m from down south,” she said, UPI reported. “And I’m your mother.”
She continued on live television: “I disagree that many families are like ours. I don’t know many families that are fighting at Thanksgiving. I was very glad that this Thanksgiving was a year you were supposed to go to your in-laws. I’m hoping you’ll have some of this out of your system when you come here for Christmas. I would really like a peaceful Christmas.”
Mr. Scully then asked what it was like during the two boys’ growing up years.
“It hasn’t been easy,” she said, adding that she loved both of them, UPI said.
Still, Ms. Woodhouse is a registered Democrat. At the same time, she said she has on prior occasion split her ticket and voted for Republican candidates, UPI said.
