New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who was spotted sitting with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones during the Cowboys’ 38-27 win over the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday night, defended his rooting for Dallas during Townsquare Media’s December edition of “Ask the Governor.”
“I’m a Cowboys fan,” he said. “This is, like, the worst-kept secret in America, right? I’ve been talking about this for five years.”
“Listen, Eagle fans are really passionate, that’s great,” he said. “I’m happy for them - I want them to be passionate and to be fired up. They were fired up…for the game, and that’s great.”
He said he’s a big Cowboys fan and has been since he was nine years old.
“And since the beginning of me getting into public life, people ask me who I root for, I haven’t done these [n]amby-pamby crap, you know, I say listen, I’m a Cowboys fan,” he said.
Philadelphia city councilman Jim Kenney delivered some off-color criticism at Mr. Christie via Twitter, which the governor and possible 2016 presidential contender suggested was just intended to boost Mr. Kenney’s own name recognition.
“First of all, who, by the way?” Mr. Christie asked. “Who?”
“There’s lots of people who attempt to use me to increase their own fame, and this guy obviously…has used me to increase his own fame,” he said.
