Come early 2015, New York pet owners will no longer be able to pierce or tattoo their pets, thanks to a new measure signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The law came on the heels of massive outcry generated earlier this year because of people who decided to pierce “gothic kitties,” New York Magazine reported. Shortly after the kittie fallout. another pet owner tattooed his dog with a heart shape.

But in 120 days — when the law goes into effect — tattooing or piercing pets will bring 15 days worth of jail time, New York Magazine said.
