Donald Trump argued Monday that the hostage crisis in Sydney, Australia, could easily happen here in the United States, due to Islamic extremists’ complete “lack of respect” for the Western world.
Speaking to Mr. Trump, “Fox and Friends” host Steve Doocy began: “You live on Fifth Avenue here in New York City. There’s a Lindt chocolate shop close to your house…”
“Maybe that will be next,” Mr. Trump replied, according to a video provided by The Daily Caller. “And the fact is they no longer respect this part of the world, our world. They no longer respect it. They see what’s happened. They see what they get away it, and they just don’t have respect.”
“And it will happen in this country, and it’ll happen more and more and throughout the world,” he continued. “A lot of it is a lack of respect, and they certainly don’t have that.”
Man Haron Monis, an Iranian and reported Islamic State sympathizer, took an undisclosed number of hostages Monday at a downtown Sydney Lindt chocolate shop. Police stormed the shop Tuesday after hostages had been held more than 16 hours. Media reports say at least three people were killed, including Monis.
