EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Redskins quarterback Colt McCoy played only 12 snaps in Sunday’s game against the New York Giants before aggravating the pinched nerve in his neck and leaving the game.
Robert Griffin III, who was benched Nov. 26 after a string of poor performances, replaced McCoy for the team’s second drive, which resulted in a punt.
McCoy completed 4 of 7 passes for 39 yards in Washington’s opening possession, leading the team on a 13-play, 79-yard drive for a field goal. He also ran twice for 24 yards.
On his second rushing attempt, a scramble on 2nd and 10 from the 21-yard line, McCoy kept the ball up the middle and was wrapped up by several Giants defenders. While he was being tackled, Giants linebacker Devon Kennard delivered a hard hit to the square of McCoy’s back.
McCoy initially sustained the injury late in last week’s loss to the St. Louis Rams. He was a limited participant in practice this week.
