One restaurant in Tokyo was so concerned about staffers’ feeling that managers outright banned couples from eating there on Christmas Eve — because they thought the cozy partnerships might depress their workers.

PiaPia posted a note on its window informing of its Dec. 24 policy. that included a child’s-like image of faceless male and female figures with a big red cross drawn over it.

It read, the blog Rocket News 24 reported: “As it would cause severe emotional trauma to our staff members, we will be denying entry to all couples on December 24, with no exceptions!”

Restaurant worker Takashi Kyozuka said the ban began as a joke, but then morphed into actual policy, The Telegraph reported.
