The U.S. Army is moving forward with a plan to build a giant airport for drones in Fort Worth, Texas.
A $33 million construction contract has been awarded to SGS for a 150-acre unmanned aircraft launch and recovery complex at Fort Bliss for Gray Eagle and Shadow Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), the military technology website Defense Systems reported Wednesday.
The website said the new complex will include a 50,000-square-foot unmanned aircraft maintenance hangar and more than a mile of runways, aprons and taxiways.
The U.S. Army said all operations that originate from the airport will take place in restricted airspace, Defense Systems reported.
