Former Vice President Al Gore pulled out all the stops Wednesday at the U.N. climate conference in Peru, reciting lines from poets from three different countries — Spain, China and the United States.
Mr. Gore, who was at the Lima conference to lend support for an international climate change treaty, quoted Lu Xun of China while expressing his hopes for a deal, RTCC.org reported: “Hope is a path on the mountainside. At first there is no path. But then there are people passing that way. And there is a path.”
He then moved on to Spain’s Antonio Machado.
“Traveller, there is no path,” Mr. Gore said. “You must make the path as you walk.”
And, from America’s Wallace Stevens, Mr. Gore said: “After the final no, there comes a yes. And on that yes, the future world depends.”
