A festive President Obama on Wednesday took part in the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” program, joining with first lady Michelle Obama in delivering bags of Christmas toys for needy children.

“I’m the big elf. I’m like Will Ferrell,” the president declared, referencing the comedian’s character in the holiday movie “Elf.”

Mr. and Mrs. Obama visited the Joint Base Anacostia-Boilling in Washington and sorted bags of toys for the program, which has delivered more than 469 million toys to 216 million children since it began in 1947.

The president arrived carrying a large red sack of gifts and doing his best Santa impression.

“Ho, ho, ho,” he said, adding that the bags of presents contained “a lot of doll houses, lots of Ninja Turtles.”

Mr. Obama also paid tribute to the nation’s military for their service on the battlefield and at home.

“Our men in uniform not only work to keep the nation safer but also to strengthen our communities at home,” he said.
