Adam Everett Livix, a 30-year-old Texas man, was arrested by Israeli authorities over allegations he plotted to bomb several Muslim holy sites.

Mr. Livix was already wanted by U.S. authorities for drug-related charges, NBC News reported. He went to the Middle East a few months ago and took up residence in Bethlehem and Hebron, posing as a Navy SEAL, NBC News said.

He was grabbed in November by FBI, Israeli police and Shin Bet security officials, though his arrest wasn’t made public until now.

While in the Middle East, a Palestinian official tried to get him to help assassinate President Obama, authorities with Shin Bet said, NBC News reported.

Mr. Livix declined that plot, but authorities said he did start to plan attacks on holy sites in Jerusalem, in concert with his Israeli soldier roommate, NBC News said.

He’s currently undergoing a psychiatric evaluation, The Associated Press reported.
