Redskins defensive lineman Kedric Golston will likely miss the team’s upcoming game against the St. Louis Rams because of back and foot injuries, coach Jay Gruden said Monday.
Golston has plantar fasciitis (“the dreaded plantar fasciitis,” Gruden added) and also injured his back during pregame warmups Sunday in Indianapolis. Gruden classified the injury as “low back inflammation” and said Golston will follow up with a spine specialist this week.
The 31-year-old lineman did not play a snap in Washington’s 49-27 loss to the Colts and it “looks like he’ll be out [for Sunday],” according to Gruden.
“He had a little bit of soreness, I guess, during the week or whatever but he was fine,” Gruden said. “And then in pregame warmup, he was doing a drill and I think he felt his back twinge a little bit. It locked up on him.”
Safety Brandon Meriweather’s availability for Sunday’s game is also in doubt. The safety sprained his big toe and is “probably going to be questionable for a little while,” according to Gruden.
“We don’t know his status yet, but it’s not looking good,” Gruden said.

Meriweather said x-rays on the toe came back negative. However, he did not remember when the injury occurred and its extent was not explained to him.
“To be honest, I have no idea,” Meriweather said. “They actually didn’t tell me anything except I need to put it in the cold tub.”
Chase Minnifield left Sunday’s game with concussion-like symptoms and will undergo the league’s concussion protocol this week. DeSean Jackson also exited early with a bruised right fibula.
“Looks like he’ll be okay with time, Gruden said. “Just don’t know how long that will be.”
The other injured players received relatively positive news, Gruden said. Inside linebacker Will Compton’s back injury does not look serious, and cornerback E.J. Biggers (concussion) is expected to return soon.
The other players who either entered the game with an injury or sustained one during the game are okay, according to Gruden. Linebacker Keenan Robinson (left MCL sprain) did not require an MRI, and Ryan Kerrigan said the pain in his wrist has dwindled.
“It’s good. It’s just a bruise,” Kerrigan said. “It hurt like hell when I initially did it, but it’s fine now.”
NOTE: The Redskins signed linebacker Trevardo Williams to the practice squad and released tackle Michael Huey. Williams, 23, was a fourth-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2013 and was most recently a member of the Colts’ practice squad.
