A group with ties to the Islamic State came forward and claimed responsibility for an earlier carjacking in Egypt that left an American oil worker dead.
William Henderson was killed on Aug. 6 in what’s believed to have been a carjacking, the SITE Intel Group reported.
Now, Ansaw Beit al-Maqdis — also dubbed the Sinai Province — put out a tweet over the weekend claiming responsibility for his death, USA Today reported.
The group, which has supposedly expressed allegiance the Islamic State, a terrorist organization, published pictures of Henderson’s passport and identification cards along with the tweet, USA Today reported.
Henderson is 58 and from Texas, according to the posted passport information, USA Today said. His identification cards said he worked for Qarun Petroleum Co. as a production expert. The firm is based in Houston, but it’s conducting joint oil exploration operations with Egypt.
