Former New York Gov. George Pataki kept his cards close to his chest and refused in a recent televised interview to divulge his White House plans for 2016 — but did admit that the president’s “trashing” of the Constitution could prove the reason that catapults him into the race.
“Our government is failing the people of this country,” said Mr. Pataki, a Republican, during an interview on “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV. The “leftist” wing in the Democratic Party have taken over, he added, and we need to “take our country back.”
He also said that even the weakest Republican candidate for president in 2016 would be a “dramatic improvement” over President Obama, or any other Democratic candidates, such as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton or Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Newsmax reported. And while being coy and refusing to directly address several pointed questions from Mr. Malzberg over his plans to seek the White House or not, Mr. Pataki did say that Mr. Obama’s treatment of the Constitution demanded someone take an immediate stand to rein in government.
“It’s hideous, it’s wrong,” he said of Mr. Obama’s “trashing [of] the Constitution in ways that were only dreamed of.”
