Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley admitted he’s “seriously considering” a White House run in 2016.
Mr. O’Malley told Fusion’s Jorge Ramos that he wants to challenge former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton — if she in fact decides to seek the presidency — because the United States needs “better choices,” he said.
“I am seriously considering running in 2016,” Mr. O’Malley said, Newsmax reported. “But the most important politics of all is to govern well, and to govern truthfully. So I am focused on doing everything I can to be an effective governor of Maryland and to serve my people well.”
Mr. O’Malley admitted his political dreams might bring on tension with other Democrats — but that in the end, his country comes first, he said.
“I have certainly cherished my relationship and working relationship not only with Secretary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton, but also with President Obama,” he said, Newsmax reported. “I love my country, but I believe our country’s best days are still ahead of us. I also believe that we need to make better choices as a people, choices that not only reflect the goodness of who we are but a better future that we are desirous of our kids.”
Mr. O’Malley said he’s also writing his memoirs, but declined to say when his book would be published.
