Prince Charles is reportedly “furious” about a tell-all book about his marriage to the now-deceased Princess Diana is about to hit the store shelves — especially since it’s penned by one of his trusted advisers, former Buckingham Palace press officer Dickie Arbiter.
Mr. Arbiter, 73, had a front row seat to the couple’s marriage and reportedly knows several intimate details the prince would rather keep quiet, the New York Post reported.
“Charles is furious,” one palace official said to the Sunday Mirror. “This man was a trusted friend.”
The book, “On Duty with the Queen,” is being billed as officer a “behind the scenes” look at palace life during “the most turbulent [time] in the history of the modern British monarchy,” the New York Post reported.
Mr. Arbiter was employed at the palace for 12 years, at the same time the prince and Diana split and she subsequently died in a car crash.
“It is just a case of a man who he thought was a friend and who could be trusted, cashing in on the misery of that time,” the palace sources said in the Sunday Mirror. “It is disloyal.”
But Mr. Arbiter said he wrote the book more as an autobiography, than a tell-all.
“This is not just a memoir of an intense dozen years, but is a story of a life, my life, and it’s been quite an extraordinary one,” he said, the New York Post reported. At the same time, he admits the book contains a “candid look behind the scenes of the most sensational and salacious royal stories.”
