Sen. Chuck Schumer said the federal government needs to hurry up and issue guidelines to stop drones from spying on innocent Americans.

“New York City is the Wild West of drones,” the New York Democrat said, the New York Daily News reported. “The FAA plain and simple needs to stop dragging its feet.”

Mr. Schumer said both the Federal Aviation Administration and the Commerce Department are supposed to have privacy flight rules for drones in ink before the end of the year — but that agency officials are moving too slow to keep pace with the rapidly emerging technology.

He said he specifically wants guidelines that prohibit drone users from spying on people’s homes and offices.
