Catholics in the Philippines say they have a religious calling to serve as a counter to the message spewed by Islamic State terrorists, and as part of that mission, they’re collecting donations for Iraq and Syria Christian’s who’ve been displaced.
The call comes from the Philippine Roman Catholic Church, the largest in Asia, The Associated Press reported.
Archbishop Socrates Villegas, the head of the country’s Catholic bishops, called for widespread charitable donations for Christians whose churches and other places of worship have been destroyed “by a godless rage with which no genuine religion can ever identify,” he said, AP reported.
Mr. Villegas referred to the beheading of U.S. journalist James Foley and said the church should “do our part … to counter the defacement of religion,” AP reported.
