The GOP has a women problem, according to a new report commissioned by Republican groups.

Politico reported Thursday that the report found that female voters see the party as “intolerant,” “lacking compassion” and “stuck in the past.”

The “Republicans and Women Voters: Huge Challenges, Real Opportunities” report, obtained by Politico, was commissioned by Crossroads GPS and American Action Network.

Those findings could be a bad omen for Republicans, who aren’t polling well with women voters in some of the top Senate races that will decide who controls the upper chamber during the final two years of the Obama administration.

Republicans hoped to improve their image in the eyes of women in the wake of the 2012 presidential race, where President Obama won female voters by an 11 percent margin over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

The Republican National Committee noted in its post-election “Growth and Opportunity” report that women made up 53 percent of the electorate and that Mr. Obama won single women, which made up four in 10 female voters, by 36 percent.

“They represent more than half of the voting population in the country, and our inability to win their votes is losing us elections,” the report said.

It also said the party needs to do more to combat the Democratic charge that the GOP is waging a “war on women.” And it said that when it comes to social issues, the party “must in fact and deed be inclusive and welcoming.”

“If we are not, we will limit our ability to attract young people and others, including many women, who agree with us on some but not all issues,” the report said.
