Another 2014 poll shows another dead heat in a top Senate race, this time in Iowa.
A Suffolk University/USA Today poll of likely general election voters shows that Iowa Rep. Bruce Braley, a Democrat, and state Sen. Joni Ernst are tied at 40 percent in the race to replace retiring Sen. Tom Harkin, a Democrat.
David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center in Boston, said that the poll shows that there is a geographic split in the state.
“If you drive north into Iowa on I-35 coming from Missouri, you’ll see a landscape full of red counties far to the left and blue counties far to the right,” he said.
“The poll pits Democrat Braley’s congressional district in the northeast against Ernst’s Senate district in the southwest, but the voters in between will make the difference.”
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percent.
