Massachusetts State Police have issued an apology for a bumper sticker on one of their police cruisers that read: “Racial Profiling Saves Lives.”
An alert Boston pedestrian, Chris Kantos, noticed the sticker, took a quick photograph of it and tweeted it to State Police headquarters and Gov. Deval Patrick, Boston magazine reported.
“Can anyone help me comprehend this @MassStatePolice bumper parked in Boston? Vandalism I hope? cc: @MassGovernor,” he tweeted with a photo of the cruiser.
The police subsequently tweeted, “@chriskantos @MassGovernor Unknown to Tpr assigned cruiser, we checked immediately. No bumper sticker. #photoshopfail.”
Mr. Kantos fired back via Twitter: “Why on earth would I photoshop something like that?”
After further investigation, the police apologized and conceded the photo was genuine, blaming an “unknown subject” for putting the sticker on the cruiser.
“Sorry for any earlier confusion of authenticity,” the police tweeted. “@chriskantos Tpr removed same as soon as he saw it, reported same to his supervisor.”
