The young homeless man who accepted the Video of the Year VMA on Miley Cyrus’ behalf on Sunday reportedly has a warrant out for his arrest in Oregon after he violated his probation following a drug test.
Jesse Helt, 22, told The Daily Mail that his return to his home in Oregon may hit a snag — a judge had issued a warrant for his arrest in 2011 for repeatedly violating his probation and he could be arrested upon return.
Miss Cyrus broke from her twerking antics during the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night and instead allowed Mr. Helt to accept her award while also providing a few words about teen homelessness.
Miss Cyrus allegedly auditioned six or seven homeless teens before choosing Mr. Helt to be her date to the awards ceremony, The Sun reported.
Mr. Helt was arrested and charged in October 2010 for burglary, criminal mischief and criminal trespass after he allegedly tried to break into a marijuana dealer’s apartment. He made the Most Wanted List for Polk County in February 2012, The Mail reported. The burglary charge was later dismissed.
Mr. Helt was given 30 days in county jail and placed on supervised probation for 12 months. He was booked on probation violations on July 24, 2011 and August 22, 2011, The Mail reported. He is accused of using marijuana, not providing a urine sample, failing to report to his probation officer, not abiding by curfew and not completing community service, The Mail reported.
Local Judicial Services Specialist Jon Troike told The Sun: “He still has an outstanding warrant. If he’s contacted by the police in Oregon he would be arrested.”
Mr. Helt boarded a plane Monday night to take him back to Oregon from Los Angeles. The $360 economy ticket was paid for by Miss Cyrus, The Mail reported.
