Congress members makes 3 times average American’s salary: report

Congress is paid more than three times the average full-time worker in the United States, according to a new study.

The Taxpayers Protection Alliance, in partnership with Our Generation, released a report Tuesday — “Are Members of Congress Overpaid? An Analysis of Congressional Compensation” — that said that lawmakers make $286,000 annually between benefits and compensation, compared to $55,048 for the average full-time employee.

“While Congress takes more than a month off from working to solve real problems that they’ve known about for some time, they are continuing to collect salaries and benefits that put them amongst the better paid employees in the country,” said Alliance President David Williams. “Congress should find ways to cut their own budgets, reduce the more than $17 trillion in national debt they’ve helped to incur, and scale back their own salaries as the average income in middle-class households continues to fall.”
