Former President Bill Clinton is throwing his political muscle behind Rep. Mike Michaud’s push to unseat Maine Gov. Paul LePage.
The Michaud campaign announced Tuesday that Mr. Clinton will be traveling to Portland, Maine on Sept. 2 to headline a rally for Mr. Michaud and the state Democratic party.
The event is open to the public. The invite says that those that turn out can also pay $1,000 to have a photo taken with Mr. Clinton.
Mr. LePage is widely viewed as one of the most vulnerable GOP governors in the 2014 election.
The latest Real Clear Politics average of polls show that Mr. Michaud holds a 39.4 percent to 38.4 percent lead over Mr. LePage. Eliot Cutler, the Independent that nearly defeated Mr. LePage in 2010, has 16 percent.
Mr. Clinton’s former lead campaign strategist, James “the Ragin’ Cajun” Carville keynoted a lobster bake for Mr. Michaud earlier this month.
