The Republican Governors Association rolled out a new ad in the Maine gubernatorial race in support of Paul LePage, calling him “unique like Maine.”
Mr. LePage is fighting for his political life in a race against Democratic Rep. Mike Michaud and independent Eliot Cutler.
“Some people like their politicians blow-dried. Others prefer the cookie-cutter model. Or those who always have the perfect sound bite. And then there’s Paul LePage,” the narrator says in the 30-second spot.
Mr. LePage has scored the occasional national headline for his off-the-cuff remarks and is viewed as one of the most vulnerable GOP governors in the 2014 election.
The latest Real Clear Politics average of polls show that Mr. LePage is trailing Mr. Michaud by a 39.4 percent to 38.4 percent margin. Mr. Cutler, who nearly defeated Mr. LePage in 2010, receives 16 percent.
The RGA ad says that Mr. LePage helped pass the largest tax cut in the states’ history, reformed the state’s welfare system and created business-friendly environment that has helped put people to work.
“Blunt. Honest. One of a kind,” the narrator says. “Paul LePage. He’s unique like Maine.”
