Rock legend Joe Walsh is putting his smoking guitar riffs to work for Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley’s campaign for U.S. Senate in Iowa, soliciting donations with a chance to win tickets to an upcoming Eagles concert in Des Moines.
In a fundraising email Thursday, the Eagles guitarist and infamous party animal endorsed Mr. Braley and announced a raffle for a pair of concert tickets and passes to a private “meet and greet” at the show.
He asked for a $5 contribution to enter the raffle.
“Bruce and his wife first met at an Eagles concert back when they were both students at Iowa State — and while I didn’t know him then, I’m proud to say I know him now and that I support Bruce in his campaign to become the next U.S. Senator of Iowa,” Mr. Walsh said in the email.
“We’ve got a concert coming up in Des Moines on September 6th, and I can’t think of a better way to say ’I back Bruce’ than by giving one of his grassroots supporters a pair of tickets and passes to a private meet and greet — the VIP treatment! — at our show,” he wrote.
Mr. Braley is locked in a tight race against Republican Joni Ernst for the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin. The race is among a handful of contest that will determine whether Democrats can hold onto their thin majority in the Senate.
In his hit song “Life’s Been Good” from a solo album, Mr. Walsh sang, “It’s hard to leave when you can’t find the door.” But he said in the email that these days he doesn’t have trouble seeing the problems in Washington.
“It’s not hard to see that Washington is dysfunctional and it isn’t working the way it should be. But there are a few folks in Congress who are trying to fix that, and Bruce Braley is one of them,” he said.
