PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Republican Gov. Tom Corbett is attacking Democratic challenger Tom Wolf’s plan to shift more of Pennsylvania’s income tax onto the wealthiest taxpayers.
In an interview with an Associated Press panel Wednesday, Corbett said the plan faces legal and political obstacles that likely would prevent it from ever becoming law.
The Republican incumbent says Wolf’s proposal to overhaul the income tax and cut taxes for the middle class is unconstitutional and unlikely to be approved by the legislature or the courts.
Corbett critically dissected the centerpiece of Wolf’s “Fresh Start” campaign agenda, saying it represents “the promises of the past.” But Corbett advanced no initiatives of his own.
Wolf’s campaign says his plan is constitutional and it’s not interested in Corbett’s analysis.
