Hillary Clinton keeps generating bad news even when she tries to stay out of the spotlight. The Las Vegas Review-Journal took advantage of the state records law to get a look at Hillary’s rock-star demands for giving a speech. Not only does she charge $225,000 to give a speech, but she also insists on a luxury private jet - a $39 million, 16-passenger Gulfstream G450 or larger is specified - to carry Her Majesty and the royal entourage. All of their expenses have to be covered, and the Royal Presence must be given “presidential suite” accommodations at the finest local hotel. She has to be given exclusive control of the stage when she speaks. She “will remain at the event no longer than 90 minutes; will pose for no more than 50 photos with no more than 100 people; and won’t allow any press coverage or video- or audio-taping of her speech.” Instead, her hosts have to shell out over $1,200 to pay for a stenographer to record Her Majesty’s golden words.
When she spoke to the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Foundation, she banned them from advertising the event on radio, TV or billboards. Web and mail ads were OK… provided Her Majesty’s royal entourage approved them first. Several foundation officials complained in emails about the way Hillary’s people edited their event materials.
Not too shabby for someone who famously complained about being “dead broke” when she left the White House with only a few million in the bank, and only two mansions to her name. Nevada reporter Jon Ralston asked in amazement after listing Mrs. Clinton’s speaking demands: “Who gets to hold Hillary’s crown when she speaks?”
Back in their White House days, the Clintons were notorious for claiming underwear they donated to charity on their tax returns. But they never stop whining and complaining about what other people do with their money. Hillary in particular is quick to offer her opinions about people who make too much money, and seems perpetually bitter and envious about those who are richer than her. It must be like chewing nails when she has to beg billionaires for campaign cash. She doesn’t think she should have to beg. She thinks she should be carried into the White House on a sedan chair.
The 2012 presidential campaign was all about Democrats savaging Mitt Romney for his wealth. David Letterman even tore into Mr. Romney about his fortune, even though Mr. Letterman actually has a higher net worth. Mr. Romney didn’t get his money through political connections the way the Clintons have done for almost all of their lives. He earned it by being a hard-working and savvy businessman.
Mr. Romney is also a remarkably generous donor to charity. He donates his time as well as his money. For some reason, his campaign kept many of the details under wraps until late in the game, when people Mr. Romney helped showed up at the Republican National Convention to testify to his character and generous spirit. By then it was too late.
Maybe Mr. Romney didn’t want to talk about his generosity because the point of such activity was to help people, not build up political capital that could be spent on a presidential campaign. For liberals, their ideology is their character. Having the right ideas and embracing the right leaders is all that matters. The elite are entitled to fortune and luxury because they’re brilliant, caring people who believe all the right things. What they actually do doesn’t matter at all. Ted Kennedy killed a woman, and it didn’t keep him from being celebrated as a “liberal lion.” Democrats get angry if you mention Chappaquiddick, because Edward Kennedy’s wonderful political career supposedly wiped away his sins. In fact, he transcended them.
So it is with Hillary Clinton, whose five-star luxury demands and thirst for cash - things she and her followers would savagely denounce in a corporate CEO - are not supposed to reflect on her character, because her politics define her character. There’s no logical reason in the world for the demands she makes, or the exorbitant fees she charges. But logic doesn’t matter, because she’s entitled. She’s an aristocrat. After eight years of watching President Obama treat himself to the royal lifestyle, Americans should be tired of aristocratic politicians.
