A 90-year-old holocaust survivor was one of eight arrested during a protest in downtown St. Louis, according to local CBS affiliate KMOV.
The arrests were made by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for failing to disperse outside the Wayne Wright building. Hedy Epstein, the 90-year-old who is now a political activist, was among them, the station reported.
The demonstration was in response to Gov. Jay Nixon’s decision to activate the National Guard amid volatile protests that have followed a fatal police shooting of a teen in Ferguson, a St. Louis suburb, earlier this month. The governor reportedly has a satellite office in the building.
KMOV reporter Chris Standford said, “They marched from Kiener Plaza protesting the National Guard in Ferguson.” He added that a security officer said they were instructed not to let the protesters in the building because they were not there on “official business.”
The Organization for Black Struggle organized the protest.
