Members of the Westboro Baptist Church say they might demonstrate outside the memorial service of Robin Williams in protest of his movie portrayal of a gay man in the 1996 comedy, “The Birdcage.”
Media outlets in the Bay Area of California reported that the Kansas-based group, which frequently targets funeral services to push its anti-gay rhetoric, has been tweeting of its intent to protest the private, family only memorial service. But as the Los Angeles Times reported, the group sometimes vows protests that never materialize.
Group members are reportedly angry with Williams’ portrayal of a gay man in the movie “The Birdcage,” billed as one of his most memorable performances.
