Iraqi and Kurdish forces reported a major win Monday morning, claiming in state-run media that they’ve recaptured the crucial Mosul dam from Islamic State terrorists.

The announcement — if confirmed by independent media — would mean that government officials are finally seeing some gain in their months-long battle to beat back IS, as it sweeps through the nation and tries to instill Sharia law.

U.S. fighter pilots carried out more than 14 airstrikes on various IS targets the past couple days, CBS reported. The United States has just announced more airstrikes are on the way, various media said.
