President Obama frequently paints the Republican-controlled House as the reason little gets done in Washington, but the GOP on Saturday countered that all of the blame rests with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
In the GOP’s weekly address, Rep. Doug Collins, Georgia Republican, blasted Mr. Reid and his fellow Democrats for failing to act on more than 340 bills passed by the House recently, including more than 40 pieces of legislation centered on job creation.
Most of those measures, Mr. Collins said, have at least some bipartisan support but still have gone nowhere in the Senate.
“We’ve passed bill after bill to help our struggling economy, save taxpayer dollars, lower the cost of gas and groceries, and help every child get a good education,” he said. “But Democrats in the Senate have essentially decided to do nothing. Our bills are piling up on Harry Reid’s desk, collecting dust … That’s just irresponsible. There’s no other word for it.”
While Mr. Obama has vowed to continue working through executive action this year, Republicans also promised to forge ahead legislatively, despite the Senate’s inaction.
“Republicans aren’t going to slow down. We’re going to keep passing common-sense solutions to help American families, and we’re going to keep the pressure on Senate Democrats to do their job,” Mr. Collins said.
