OAKLAND, Calif. — Police in Oakland scuffled with a handful of protesters, and a few windows were smashed during a largely peaceful march to decry the shooting death of an unarmed teen in Ferguson, Missouri.
The windows of a bank and yarn store were broken in Friday’s protest through the streets of Oakland, the Oakland Tribune reported.
It’s not clear whether anyone has been arrested or injured.
A call and message from The Associated Press to an Oakland Police Department spokesperson hasn’t been returned.
The march began around 6 p.m. at a downtown plaza, the site of a peaceful protest the previous day, and wound its way to Berkeley, the Tribune reported.
Police officers, some in riot helmets, faced off with protesters at a freeway on-ramp to keep them from marching onto Interstate 880.

As night fell, a few protesters with covered faces pulled out paint cans and hammers and sprayed anti-police graffiti on buildings along the march route, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Drivers along the way, sitting in cars blocked by the marchers, honked in support, eliciting cheers from the crowd. At one point, aerial fireworks were set off near 14th Street and Broadway, bringing more whoops and hollers from the rowdy protesters.
