Although the U.S. Has taken heat from Germany after reports surfaced that the NSA had been spying in the country, a new report reveals that a German foreign intelligence agency tapped phone calls made by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Hillary Clinton before him.
The German magazine Der Spiegel reported Saturday that the intelligence agency, known as BND, listened in on a phone call Mr. Kerry made in 2013 during surveillance of the Middle East.
The agency also eavesdropped on a conversation between Mrs. Clinton and former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the magazine reported.
However, sources claim that the conversations had been heard accidentally and that the officials weren’t directly targeted.
The phone call from Mrs. Clinton reportedly took place on the same “frequency” as a terror suspect.
All of the conversations were ordered to be destroyed immediately, Der Spiegel reported.
