PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) — Pueblo County commissioners have approved a land use permit for a proposed solar project near one of Xcel Energy’s largest power plants.
Commissioners voted unanimously Wednesday to grant the permit.
The solar plant will produce 120 megawatts of power - enough electricity to power 31,000 homes - for Xcel’s Comanche station. KOAA-TV (https://bit.ly/1uT4fM7) reports that most of the solar power will be sent through Xcel’s grid north to the Denver area although some will go to the Evraz Rocky Mountain Steel Mill in Pueblo.
SunEdison plans to install as many as 450,000 solar panels. Construction is expected to start next summer.
