All was calm at Martha’s Vineyard as President Obama and Hillary Clinton rubbed elbows at a Wednesday evening party — the first get-together of the two since the former Secretary of State made unflattering comments about White House foreign affairs policy.
The two sat at the same table for the 80th birthday celebration for Ann Jordan, the wife of Vernon Jordan, a long-time Clinton family friend and confidante. Joining them at the table were their spouses and both Jordans, The Hill reported.
The food included surf-and-turf and pasta, a White House pool reported indicated.
Press weren’t allowed at the affair. But Mrs. Clinton’s statement about the get-together was a lot tamer and favorable to the president than the ones she gave to The Atlantic over the weekend.
In the article, she spoke of the White House mantra of dealing with all-things-foreign, and said “’Don’t do stupid stuff’ is not an organizing principle for great nations,” various media reported.
On Wednesday, just hours before the Martha’s Vineyard get-together with Mr. Obama, Mrs. Clinton spoke much more diplomatically of her former boss.
“We have disagreements as any partners and friends, as we are, might very well have,” she said, The Hill reported. “But I’m proud that I served with him and for him, and I’m looking forward to seeing him tonight.”
Others in attendance at the party included key Obama adviser, Valerie Jarrett, along with her mother, Barbara Bowman, and American Express CEO Kenneth Chenault and his wife, Kathy, The Hill reported.
