Fremont, California, educators have decided that parents are right: A sexual education textbook used for ninth-graders is just too graphic, and it shouldn’t be used any longer.
So the board voted 3-2 to return the manual to the publisher, McGraw-Hill, and just stick with the sex-ed book used in 2013, The Associated Press reported.
The move follows widespread parental complaints over content perceived as too graphic for the age group — content that included mention of sex toys and bondage and instruction on giving erotic touches, AP reported. The book, called “Your Health Today,” also mentioned various dating websites.
Superintendent Jim Morris said his hope was that the publisher would edit the book and tone down some of the graphic references, so that parents would allow its use once again, AP said.
