And the award for the nation’s fastest Internet connection goes to … Virginia.
That’s according to a new report from Broadview Networks, a communications and cloud services provider that researched which state was best for high-speed Internet service.
The fastest, in order, are Virginia, Delaware, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and D.C., Redorbit.com reported.
Virginia touted an average data transfer speed during the first quarter of 2014 of 13.7 megabits per secod, versus second place winners Delaware and Massachusetts, at 13.1 Mbps each. Rhode Island had 12.9; the nation’s capital, 12.8; Washington state, 12.5 and New Hampshre, 12.3.
“Internet speed has been a hot topic in the news as of late, with major providers intentionally throttling speeds and the heated debate surrounding net neutrality,” the company said in a statement. “It isn’t surprising that so many people are interested in the topic. After all, the internet occupies much of an American’s daily life. … But we all know that simply having Internet access doesn’t cut it —the speed has to be fast and consistent.”
States with the slowest Internet speeds include Montana, Kentucky and Arkansas, with Alaska finishing dead last.
