The mayor of the Tower Hamlets, a borough on the east side of London, hung a Palestinian flag over town hall as a means of showing solidarity with Gaza.

Breitbart reported that Mayor Lutfur Rahman posted a photograph of the flag on his Twitter account, with the text: “Palestinian flag flying at Town Hall in solidarity with #Gaza and in support of a #ceasefire & peace.”

Members of both Jewish and Christian communities in the region were reportedly outraged, with at least one campaign group calling the hanging of the flag an “incitement and danger to the Jewish community,” Breitbart reported.

The flag, shortly after, was taken down — but not by the mayor. Rather, a spokesman for the council said the removal of it was a “perceived act of vandalism,” Breitbart reported.
