NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Yankees have optioned catcher Austin Romine to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and recalled reliever Shane Greene to help bolster a bullpen missing closer David Roberston.

The right-hander was promoted before the Yankees played the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.

The 25-year-old Greene has never pitched above Double-A Trenton but was impressive during spring training, showing a 95 mph fastball. He was on Scranton’s roster but hadn’t pitched yet this season.

Manager Joe Girardi said Greene was summoned because Robertson is out with a strained left groin and Vidal Nuno pitched 3 1-3 innings Tuesday and would not be available until at least Saturday.

Romine was recalled Saturday when first baseman Mark Teixeira went on the DL with a hamstring strain.
