NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A Virginia man is accused of making death threats against President Barack Obama and former First Lady Hillary Clinton.
David Gil Wilkinson of Suffolk was indicted by a federal grand jury on Wednesday.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Wilkinson is a retired special forces Navy chief. Court records say Wilkinson called 911 in Southampton County on March 21 claiming to be an FBI agent on a secret mission. The records say when officers responded, he told them he was going to run for president and personally execute Obama and Clinton.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Wilkinson was committed for an emergency mental health evaluation for 72 hours and reiterated his desire for an execution to Secret Service agents. If convicted, Wilkinson faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
