DENVER (AP) - Wildlife officials are consulting with leaders of the small town of Elizabeth about allowing bow hunting to curb the growing population of deer in the area.
KUSA-TV in Denver (https://on9news.tv/1ej9XTK ) reports deer have recently caused car accidents and destroyed yards in the town, prompting city leaders to seek help.
Jennifer Churchill with Colorado Parks and Wildlife says “it’s pretty important to make sure we’re having healthy populations for future generations, and bow hunting in particular can be done very safely and in small areas.”
Wildlife officials say that with any bow hunting program, hunters would need to apply and be vetted before getting a license. The number of hunters also would be limited to a small, experienced group.
Elizabeth is about 30 miles southeast of Denver.
