NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - About a dozen students called on the Rutgers University Board of Governors to consider freezing tuition.

It costs in-state students more than $13,000 in tuition and fees at attend New Jersey’s flagship university. The price of a Rutgers education is more than $25,000 for those who live on campus.

The Record newspaper (https://bit.ly/1kq7SI3 ) reports junior Margarita Rosario told the board Tuesday that her mother earns as much as it costs to attend Rutgers. She says she has to rely on the generosity of others every semester.

Rutgers vice president for budgeting Nancy Winterbauer says Gov. Chris Christie’s proposed budget provides flat funding for the school. She says it’s difficult to hold the line on tuition when state funding remains at 1995 levels.
