PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Senate has approved legislation that would create a special Boston Bruins license plate.
Legislators approved Sen. Maryellen Goodwin’s bill on Tuesday. It is being sent to the House.
If approved, the plates would cost $40 more than the regular vehicle registration fee. The money would be split evenly between the Bruins’ charitable foundation and the state.
Under the bill, the foundation must use the money to benefit charitable organizations based in Rhode Island.
The plates will be issued only if there are at least 900 pre-paid orders.
Rhode Island offers similar plates for the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
